Donnie Douchebag: "Nobody understands a word this guy is saying."

Well, nobody except the millions of people who speak and understand Spanish. 😏

Apparently all the people freaking out about songs being sung in a language other than English are not familiar with the long history of opera and other classical music being sung in languages other than English. Or, for that matter, the long history of music in every genre being sung in languages other than English.

English is a language, not a sacrament, dontcha know. 😉

Of course, almost nobody understands what POS is saying. The words may be English, but they would rejected by any English teacher who requires actual content, meaning and grammar.

Who understands more than every third word of most popular songs? I have to read the lyrics to figure out what they're saying. I suspect most of us do. And there are SO MANY songs where they absolutely sound like they're saying something that is not the printed lyrics.

Karyn Milos's avatar

Exactly this. 🙌 Misheard lyrics is, after all, a longstanding trope in our own culture. The critics are just finding excuses to hate on his performance because he's Puerto Rican and definitely not a maganaut.

Trying not to think about Trump's sphincter! Ew!

There's nothing like a celebration of love and inclusivity to completely unravel Trump.

Despite blasting him, Trump couldn't keep himself from watching Bad Bunny, while his buddy, Kid Rock, over on TPUSA, was mocked today for lip syncing; meanwhile, 143 million viewers watching Bad Bunny couldn't keep themselves from smiling!

Quite a split screen--just not the one Trump was hoping for!

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

And from what I read, the lip-syncing wasn't even in sync with the music being played. It was all out of whack. Just such a poor job on their part! They're all just big, sad, cranky, losers...

Audrey Eve's avatar

From what I could tell, Trump didn't even watch it live--he was too busy ranting about Bad Bunny!

Paul Davis's avatar

When you can't even lip sync, you're a mess.

Trump's sphincter - while I'm sure he belongs in the ice, right next to Hitler, I've got to say the bolgia of the flatterers would be a close second. If you remember Dante's Inferno.

Clay, love this and your blog! Got a kick out of the hair on the outlet😂 Where, I ask, do these malignant MAGATs get the idea THEY are America?! Makes a body 🤮. YUCK. I don't speak Spanish but I loved the show--the energy, the dancing, the obvious joy and the message. If I was younger I am sure I'd be dancing to Bad Bunny. But, Love apparently is wrong now....how I hate orange blob. Salad looked mighty tasty and I bet your chili was too. Keeping on!❤️

I believe the “hair” is a pava, a traditional Puerto Rican hat. Nice touch, Clay. (And I admit, I had to look it up.)

You are correct.

Deborah solleveld's avatar

I recognized it but didn’t know the name. Thank you!

Bad Bunny=good music. Bad Donny=no music, no dancing, no soul.

Wow..Brett Favre appeared on kid rock show? ok, anyway, Bad Bunny did a great job! Enjoyed this toon and blog.

D. D. Wyss's avatar

Yeah, Favre has been a longtime member of Team Douchebag.

Clay Jones's avatar

I messed up. Brett Favre was not there. He only threw his support toward it while dissing Bad Bunny.

D. D. Wyss's avatar

So he wasn't there, but he's still on brand.

Susan Johnson's avatar

I am well aware, but to show up there????

Pamela Van Sickle's avatar

Football, doncha know...🤮🙄

The only thing the malignant mendacious mango hates more than love is truth!

Meant to also mention that the salad looks delicious! Please keep posting food pics; we need something to balance out the daily ick.

Let’s go back to the basics: Puerto Rico has been a US territory since 1898. Puerto Ricans have been US citizens since 1917. Puerto Ricans can be drafted into the US military. So, why isn’t Spanish a required subject in US schools?

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

It was in my school. I took a total of 5 years of foreign language. 4 of which were mandatory. Maybe California is different, though? Spanish in 6th (after-school program for fun), then mandatory 7th & 8th grade Spanish, then mandatory 2 yrs in H.S. In H.S. we had several options to take - Spanish, German, and French. That was back in the '60s and '70s. They probably offer more now. I took German in H.S., since the more Spanish I took, the harder it got, and I was not doing very well! LOL! So glad I only had to take 2 yrs in H.S. or I would have flunked out of German!

Gracie44's avatar

Foreign language is required, but not necessarily Spanish. English is required, regardless of the State a person lives in or matriculates in.

Deborah solleveld's avatar

Who needs to understand the words? Music is emotion and movement. Bad Bunny captured both plus fun!

Deborah, I agree with you totally-the performance was outstanding-singing and dancing. I enjoyed it immensely.

However, the reason the language issue needs to remain front and center is because the President of the United States is consistently and irrationally badmouthing another US citizen who happens to be from Puerto Rico and speaks Spanish. tRump only recently found out that Puerto Rico is a US territory, but he spews venom every opportunity he gets. And, Clay’s cartoon and blog that make those points are ON POINT.

Deborah solleveld's avatar

Good point. Keeping his racism and ignorance front and center is important. Btw in the video of his party I didn’t notice anyone booing did you?

Badabunnie makes Kidrock a complete clown! I understood very little of the Spanish singing but totally enjoyed it … like enjoying Italian opera singing. O solo mio!

As usual - good 'toon and excellent blog - thank you @claytoonz

And thank you for the foodie pics!!

Great job all around today, Clay, including your food! That salad looks incredible, and now I want one! :) Do you like Japanese rice vinegar or balsamic vinegar? That might be tasty on it. I missed the game (slept through it, but I really don't like football, so no big loss). I eventually woke up and watched the Puppy Bowl and some of the Olympics I'd recorded. I saw some clips of half-time, which looked fantastic, so if I can find it on YouTube or something, I'll eventually watch it. Spent today dealing with a very sick cat. He's sleeping now, and will cross the rainbow bridge in the a.m. It seems my favorite pets are always headed there lately. I hate this part of loving my dear old cats and dogs. :'(
