Also, I LOVED reading this after my marathon viewing of senator Cory Booker’s efforts today. I was all fired up !! Hearing everything all laid out plainly and logically really drove home how terrible of an assault on our country this regime has been. It was kind of like watching the Jan 6 investigations - a punch in the gut. And to see this afterwards - perfect ♥️♥️♥️
Seig heil, baby. Read an interesting article yesterday, survivors of Nazi Germany (old but still with us) saying the parallels between it and what’s going on in the U.S. are too uncomfortably similar. But, as said in an old Star Wars movie: “so this is how democracy dies, to thunderous applause”.
When I was a child, my parents and grandparents shared a house, and some of what I remember hearing was about the Holocaust. I was born in 1948, so still a big topic and especially in a Jewish home. When Herr Trump first started with the fake media and the immigrants, I saw it as a red flag back then. Now everything is a hundred times worse, and there is more to come. He has to be stopped sooner rather than later. My concern right now is will the mid-term elections will even take place? I can see the GOP being scared of what could come with that election if it happens. Saturday is going to be a day of protest. This will be a big turning point when they see all these angry people out.
W.I.N. Gerald Ford? The center for Michigan who played without a helmet Gerald Ford? The pre-emptive pardoner of RMN Gerald Ford?
In 1967, on Christmas Day, my grandfather and I went for a walk after the meal. He said "we need to support Rockefeller for president, if only to prevent that criminal, Nixon from being elected." He hated Nixon and had done so since 1948 when, as a voice on HUAC, he had engineered my father's blacklisting from his job at Brookhaven National Laboratories as a "pre-mature anti-fascist." I loved that old man.
Going back to Venezuela and Chavez, the constitution passed in 1961 was based on the US constitution but in 1999 Chavez had it changed to the "Bolivarian Constitution" which created a single party national assembly of 277 members all but 6 of whom were elected from a 'select' list of candidates and who did not have the power to impeach the president.
I don't believe that will ever happen here but Trump is like a rodent gnawing away at values and legal precedents with the help of his rodent buddies.
Cory had a national profile before he was elected to the Senate, when he was mayor of Newark. He even had a fun non-partisan rivalry with Chris Christie. But he's been kinda obscured since he was elected to the Senate, in my view at least.
I don't pretend to know or even follow non CA politics. But I did know who Christie was/is, and didn't know about Booker. :-) Don't care about football so that wouldn't have helped me. :-)
Cory Booker hasn't been hidden. He's spoken at the last couple of DNCs. He's been on various news and late night shows. He played football (like Gerald Ford, but better, and starred at Stanford.) He's been outspoken about DEI issues and the continuing problems of systemic racism that plague the US. He ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. He hasn't been promoted by the press or the party. One can only speculate.
Not sure how Fox/CNN covered him, but he was front and center on MSNBC. Ds have a habit of shooting their own. Hopefully, the "elders" of the party figure it out soon, and start coalescing among a few, like 2 or 3, candidates for leadership roles. The biggest problem with wide open primaries of a dozen or so candidates is that few have heard of any of them, and they start eating each other to score points. That's how POS took over. People all over had heard of him, saw his show, loved it, and instead of getting together, the other candidates splintered, leaving the only person folks had heard of in charge. Like it or not, POS played the part of the one in charge and left everyone else in his wake.
We can blame Mitch McConnell for blocking the second impeachment vote. He said he believed it was a moot point (Jan. 6 and the attempts to subvert the election), since the Mango Mussolini was out of office and would never run again. The Senate voted 56 (or 7) to 43 (or 44) for impeachment. Schumer's, the appeaser's, vote was for impeachment, but he has become so ineffectual that he may lose his seat in the Senate when next he runs (since old senators - like Chuck Grassley) almost never retire.
Which might be why he's antagonizing Iran. Don't think it would work for him, the MAGA faithful are very much isolationist, so they'd not get excited about it, IMHO or not for long.
Can't imagine Vance giving up anything he had to 80+ Trump either. But that's me.
If his hands get any tinier, he'll no longer be able to grasp at straws.
Terrific toon and scary blog.

Kind of doubtful DJT will hang around that long, given his diet and his penchant for sitting around doing nothing but twittling his thumbs.
He's slipping pretty rapidly. Besides which, I think he just likes the threat, because it keeps the GOP cowed.

Good point. One wonders if he’ll invoke martial law before the 2026 mid-terms to stop them.
You didn't actually answer your trivia question. Gerald Ford's VP (Nelson Rockefeller?) would be my guess.
I forgot, but that is correct.. Gerald Ford.

Never heard Cory Booker before . . . Where have they been hiding him?????
Cory Booker in 2028!!!!

To answer what is obviously a rhetorical question: the US is already a banana republic.
Love this

What are you talking about, saying Mitch "blocked" the impeachment vote? You may need to use another word.
Read it too and loved it!
This was an excellent way to show up Herr Trump. Dana Millbank used the zoo animals well and made excellent points.
I agree, I think he doesn’t care about elections anymore. He intends our liberation day to be liberation from democracy.
