Growing up in the misty antiquity of the 1970s, my favorite part of the newspaper was the opinion-editorial section. I liked reading, not only about what was happening, but what people were thinking about what was happening. Apparently thinking is not currently trending under the current... whatever the hell it is, here in 2025. Nevertheless, we persist. 🎓

It's also interesting that the editors and publishers had no problem publishing right leaning cartoonists or edited images that insinuated that President Obama was Muslim or a terrorist. Orange Turd's vision of the Golden Age: yellow belly journalism.

Well, at our house we will read your cartoons/commentary as long as you draw/write them.

“To sum up, if you want to help a political cartoonist out, while our market is shrinking and our readership is rising, you can become a paid subscriber to a cartoonist’s Substack…oh, hey, like this one. Thank you!” 🫡👍👏😉

Let’s see now…

“PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS

The Borowitz Report

Steve Brodner, Keith Knight, Darrin Bell too - I’m doing monthly to try to keep it up.

You might want to look into what Darrin Bell's been up to lately.

That sounds ominous.

I wouldn’t say “ominous”, but until more information comes to light, it may or may not be disturbing and/or disappointing.😢

… but he does create Excellent Graphic Editorials.

Anyway… this may not be appropriate for this post, but I made a commitment…

I'm not optimistic.

I fully support a free press, for without it we are doomed. But lately, some outlets like WaPo have let us down, have slapped us in the face for our support. I will go down fighting for the editorial cartoonists and opinion writers to be able to publish their views. The media needs to put their duty to We the People ahead of their greed & lust for advertising dollars. I do NOT want to live in 1933 Germany!!!

So is WaPo firing Ramirez or is he one of the chosen ones who gets to still exercise his First Amendment rights and get paid for it by mainstream media?

Expand full comment

I’m afraid that WaPo will still be carrying RaMAGAz, and I expect that WaPo will also start carrying (full time) Lisa Benson, RaMAGAz’s Sister From A Different Mister, to “Replace” Ann Telnaes. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

🥳 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! 🥳

I'm shocked. Shocked.

It's scary that journalism is taking such a nosedive. I've relied on it forever to give me varying perspectives on things. It is (or was) sort of like a mini-library, a place where you can find so much variety and a place to learn. Maybe I've just been spoiled by the newspapers I read, but I'm sad that it's not what it used to be. I hope you can continue your cartoons in lots of papers and formats so that we can enjoy your wisdom and humor!

“though this may be entering me into a brand new dry spell. “

Well, Clay, this may be a good test of her commitment to the relationship, and whichever way it goes, you will be better off for it. 😉

Anyway,
