Definitely no humor to be found in this situation. That was my thought as I was reading, long before I reached your creative note. We are becoming the type of nation we used to seek to liberate.

It’s so disgusting that these officers betray their oath of office. They deserve jail time. Rump is a virus and unfortunately too many aren’t immune.

I watched the political rally the orange one held at Fort Bragg and almost threw up at the gunk that came out of his mouth about so many things including the usual "fake" news and reporting. I believe it is the media reporting that will be the evidence used to put these people away for their illegal actions. Please keep up your drawings, Clay Jones, because you are repotting on current events - bravely. And those people recording the police on horseback attacking people, capturing the police hiding behind bicyles while holding people down George Floyd style - and other illegal attacks on peaceful protestors - keep it up. It is evidence.

And I listened to a credible podcast about the staging at Fort Bragg - only very specific people could stand behind him. Supporters of course and body types he approves. Was any truth spoken?

Fort Bragg - official renamed to the First North Korean Dictator Outpost in the USA.

Soldiers selected on same criteria the North Korean Dictator uses - good looks and loyalty

I can’t heart this. (I wish a ✔️ were the choice to show agreement or I read it.) Of course it is.

This “”Police cannot pick and choose when the First Amendment applies,” the group’s president, Mike Balsamo, said in a statement. “Journalists in Los Angeles were not caught in the crossfire — they were targeted.”” Once true. No more. Especially not this weekend. There’s no one who will say no or prosecute police or the military for doing so.

I want to be proven so very wrong Monday and that it’ll all be a great time on the Mall. Dear Leader can do his - what do you call his “dance”, Clay? - and you and other journalists and those who disagree with the regime are safe. Let that come to be…said the former girl who thought “Brigadoon”was a real place.

If the Mango Mussolini wishes for a Constitutional crisis, he's got one. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits his deployment of the National Guard and the Marines. When JFK sent troops to Alabama he was condemned by the forces of repression. His justification was (validly) that he was protecting the First Amendment right of non-violent protest and assembly.

While the LA police and CHP have long histories of civil rights violations, so that their actions are not surprising, the members of the military explicitly swear an oath to the Constitution, not to the President (sic). They are required by military law to refuse illegal orders. The grunts, although culpable, are not nearly so guilty as their officers. The officers should be prosecuted, convicted and dishonorably discharged. Alas, military justice was fatally compromised by Agent Orange during his first term.

The owners of the legacy press and its editorial boards are also condemnable. They are acting as though the crisis is disorder in the second largest city in the US, but its not. The crisis is entirely the presence of the military and their illegal repression of legitimate protest. I've been watching them twist and turn, doing their best (worst) to maintain their status.

I considered listening to the Beach Boys, but got hung up listening to Be My Baby (the Ronettes) and Happy Together (the Turtles): perfect pop songs. Maybe later.

It's disgusting watching the press and the liberal "freedom of press" groups trying to defend the medias obvious support for fascism while denying it is due to fear of Trump.

Sinclair Lewis would have been hidden under a rock by these guys.

It’s mind boggling that this is happening, obviously Bass and Newsom don’t have the control over the situation that they claim to.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

They did. Have the control. It was peaceful. People were shown line dancing. When guns held by uniformed arms arrived it changed.

Newsom should press hard for prosecution of the cops involved on state charges. None of this "heroic Trump issues a pardon" BS.

Clay, thank you for addressing this very important topic. Cartoons don't always have to be funny, especially when this kind of crap is going on in our world. It's more important that everyone knows what's going on rather than having a chuckle.

“Footage from her coverage shows a cop turning to aim at her.”

The footage doesn’t just show him aiming, it shows him FIRING… you can see the smoke from his weapon about a quarter-second before she is hit in the leg. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
