Welcome to Substack, Clay. I too supported Harris (and Warren, and Klobuchar) in the primaries back then. I’m excited that we might, at long last, elect our first female president. Long, long overdue. Make that, Absurdly overdue.
Welcome to sub-stack. While I was not fond of Ms. Harris as a prosecutor or California pol, I thought her brilliant and incisive as a Senator. As candidate, not so much. I think instead there should be an open convention, somewhat like that described by James Carville last week. I think someone from one of th bigger swing states could serve admirably (Gov. Whitmer from Michigan, Sen. Sherrod Brown from Ohio, Gov. Shapiro from PA, even Sen. Klobuchar from MN.) Gov. Whitmer is listed first because she is well-liked by the people of her state and has experience negotiating in a bipartisan )or non-partisan) way. Sen. Brown is the only Dem who holds high office in increasingly red Ohio. He could beat Vance and his boss, easily. Gov. Shapiro carries the burden of being Jewish, especially considering the ongoing disaster of Gaza. Veep Harris, although receiving an endorsement form Joe Biden should NOT receive his votes at the convention. I'm not happy with anointment although that is how many in the Party are reacting. She has served admirably as Vice-president, but she carries a lot of baggage from her time as Veep and Agent Orange, unjustly, will use that against her. My choice would be Senator Warren, with Representative Katie Porter as Vice-presidential candidate. Both are superb legal minds, concise presenters of those issues that actually affect our lives. One, at least, is young, although neither is as old as Trump. Neither is duplicitous and neither is corrupt.
It's not that I doubt you, but as a withdrawn candidate that might not be true. Did HHH receive access to all of LBJ's election money (a lot less than is spent these days)? And if so, is that a party rule of federal election law that decides that?
Me? I'm waiting breathlessly for the release of Caro's 5 volume biography and listening to Wadada Leo Smith.
I'm not sure how it works and I don't know if HHH got LBJ's money. We can find out. But I think it's a federal election law which may have changed since the 1960s because a lot of others have, like corporations being people.

I think that which was donated to the DNC can be distributed as the DNC sees fit. That which was donated to the withdrawn candidate, might have changed, as did delegate selection after 1968, when most state parties in response to Mississippi sending two delegations (members of the Freedom caucus and the White Citizens League (i.e. The KKK) adopted primaries, which evolved into the very stupid winner take all practice we see in most places (not Nebraska or Maine, strangely enough). I really don't understand the delegate selection process anywhere.
My father attended the 52 convention and somewhere I might find the silver shoe stickpin that was the Stevenson supporters significant symbol. If memory serves he worked on the medical platform, supporting physician payment of social security and a national health service. It's also when he quit the AMA, although the County medical association still required membership. With Eisenhower's election he lost security clearance for being a "premature anti-fascist" (supported the Republic over fascism in Spain from 1936 onwards) which might be the best euphemism ever for non-Party "fellow-travellers" forcing him to leave medical research and go into private practice. (Actually, my mother's support for Henry Wallace in 1948 almost caused a divorce, in which case it would be doubtful I'd have been born. So he had significantly mellowed politically by 1952.)
Happy Traum died this week. I first met and go to know him as the folk music counsellor at a camp I attended in 1965, and last saw him in 1995) Happy's recording of Blowin' in the Wind (with the New World Singers) preceded Dylan's by several months. Didn't sell as well. Anyway, I've been listening to him playing with Dylan today on the Self Portrait album. Sad.

One of the few things that gave me pause in my support of HRC was her deference to he military. I voted for her. I would again, against the Mango Monster.
Not as confident about any of this as you but as I've said before come hell or high water I'm voting Democrat up and down the ballot in November.
