I cancelled my subscription to WaPo when Bezos refused to allow his editorial staff to support Kamala Harris. I would have cancelled again when he killed Ann Telnaes' cartoon, and would cancel yet again now over this latest outrage. So ... bottom line ... WaPo is now just another right-wing tabloid with no credibility. It's sad and it's dangerous, as is so much of what is happening today. I no longer recognize this world.

Keep calling them out, Clay! All foul balls as far as I can see.

Charles Blow has left the NYT. He was one of two Black columnists at "the newspaper of record." Is there anyone left at Newsday (the paper of record for Long Island?) In case anyone is unfamiliar with the term paper of record has an actual meaning. It's where governments are required to print notices of changes in law and/or policy and, with the absence of advertising revenue, was a major source of revenue. I read last week or the week before that the MAGAt county commissioner for Nassau County (the one that borders Queens and Brooklyn) had chosen a shoppers guide as the new paper of record for the county with the transparent excuse that they distribute more copies (most of which go unread) for free than does Newsday. Newsday, for many years, was the employer of Robert Caro, who has written a biography of Robert Moses (The Power Broker) and 4 volumes of his biography of LBJ.

AP banned from the press room; WaPO dying before our eyes; the LA Times DOA; the NYT hiring and employing three ethno-religious columnists (Ross Douthat (conservative Catholic apologist), David French (recovering Reagan conservative Evangelical Presbyterian) and the truly vile pro-Israel/Netanyahu apologist Bret Stephens (Jewish), formerly of the WSJ); MSNBC firing (Joy Read) or demoting its Black talking heads and its Asian-American weekend anchor. I mean WTF, people? Do they not realize how transparent this is? Nope. For the "legacy press" it's business as usual.

Correction: Hattie McKinnon is also an occasional columnist. So to is John McWhorter. Both are Black academics (UNC Chapel Hill and Columbia, respectively.) So, now there are those two and Jamelle Bouie (my personal favorite Times columnist.)

I have been wondering if SubStack is safe from the Trump regime. So many writers and cartoonists have landed here. I wish I had enough money to support them all. I am contemplating calling out tomorrow on top of not purchasing anything. During the housing collapse I called whatever little buying I did, stimulating the economy...LOL good times.

Cancelled WAPO after the editorial decision. Subscribed to AP News, Axios, The Dispatch, 1440 and my local newspaper.

Anyone else participating in tomorrow's economic boycott?

I did. It wasn't hard as the main targets aren't where I shop. I did call out too. I work at a big box store and they haven't taken down the DEI board last I looked. I may complain about things but it isn't about Diversity, Equity or Inclusion. I was disheartened to see the stock indexes went up for today.

Bezos is terrified of Trump and also wants that multi trillion tax cut. He should read some of Nick Hanauer's articles warning about what happens when people get tired of the billionaire class. Given Hanauer was one of Bezo's early investors, you'd think Bezos would respect his advice.

I don't think Bezos cares about his personal tax cut as much as he cares about his business and the doors opening for it, or at least preventing others from being closed, like his government projects.

He also has a space capsule. I don't know if he gets any of that sweet, sweet federal money for it.

I'm so disgusted by the new head of MSNBC and the terminations she's made! I didn't know about Rachel's production crew getting cut, but had heard about Joy, Alex Wagner, Katie Phang, Ayman Mohyeldin, and some other changes (something about Jonathan Capehart I think?). God forbid anyone of color or female DNA get too much air time, I'm still pissed about Medhi Hassan getting canceled back in 2024. Stupid, kowtowing, fucks! We're losing some great journalists.

In reaction to canceling, TWP offered me a $6/four-week interval subscription deal. Tempting, but NO! I love this cartoon. Imagine setting up an editorial page for a nonreader. Free delivery to a pre-kindergarten might get better responses. PS: Isn't it better to boycott advertisers?
