When Rob met Saint Peter
Rest in peace, Rob and Michele Reiner
As I'm sure it was with you, waking up to the news that director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were murdered has broken my heart.
As I'm sure you are aware, Robert Reiner played Mike Stivic on All in the Family, but went on to greater heights and fame as a director. Not any director, but one of the best directors in our film history.
Some of his films include This is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, Misery, The Sure Thing, The Bucket List, and so many more.
The movie by Reiner that I relate to the most is This Is Spinal Tap, so naturally, I used that film for today's reference. I almost watched the sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, last night, and will be sure to do so today.
I do not have a Rob Reiner story, so I will share one posted this morning by my husband-in-law, Kenny. What is a husband-in-law? Kenny is married to my ex-wife, Michelle.
Kenny wrote,
Before Trump‘s first election, Chelle and I were having dinner at a Thai restaurant in New Orleans, and he and his wife and another fellow came in and they were seated at the table right beside us. Chelle was in the restroom when they came in, and when she came back to the table her back was to them. I told her not to look now, but Rob Reiner was sitting at the table behind her, so she raised her phone up like she was sneaking a picture somehow, although it was very obvious she’s holding her phone up beside her, next to her head, Rob Reiner looked directly at her phone as she’s snapping the picture.
But after that, he spoke to us, and introduced himself. Wow! And so, the five of us started up a conversation. We spoke for about three or four minutes about the coming election, and how it was for us, being liberals in the state of Mississippi.
He was very nice and cordial. We didn’t want to keep bothering them so we stopped our conversations, and let them eat in peace. But then later on I happened to look up and he was looking at me, so I asked him how his father (Carl) was doing. He said he was still getting along fine even at 94 and thanked me for asking.
Here is the photo that Chelle snapped, September 19, 2016.
Rest in peace, Mr. Reiner, it was a pleasure having dinner with you!
Reiner, just like his character, Mike on all the family, was a fierce liberal. He was always on the correct side of history. He didn't just rest on his success, but advocated for a better life for all people. He cared about others. He was a frequent guest on MSNBC, which is now MS Now. Naturally, that meant he was a critic of Donald Trump. Naturally, that meant Donald Trump had to issue a statement about Reiner’s murder today and make it all about himself.
Trump wrote, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
The director's son, Nick Reiner, was arrested on Sunday night and is being held in a jail in Los Angeles County on $4 million bail. So far, there's no word of this having anything to do with Donald Trump or politics. Leave it to Trump to make something tragic about himself. Isn't Donald Trump responsible for enough tragedies in this country?
Donald Trump has to be a real piece of shit to take a tragic event like this, politicize it, and make it about himself.
A week or so ago, one of my haters on GoComics claimed my stroke was caused by my having so-called Trump Derangement Syndrome. Why, if only I hadn't hated Donald Trump so much, then I wouldn't have had a stroke.
The whole Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) excuse pisses me off because there are legitimate reasons to dislike what Donald Trump is doing to this nation. You don't have to be mentally ill to care about this country. My stroke had nothing to do with Donald Trump, and you would have to be a real piece of shit to blame it on something fictional like TDS. If you can't debate my cartoons on their merits, then maybe you shouldn't comment on them at all.
And since he couldn't post something eloquent and classy, as President Obama did, Donald Trump shouldn't have commented at all.

I think I love your commentaries more than your drawings.
Thank you for being knowledgeable and not just shooting off
to be heard. So grateful that we didn't lose your voice.
So sad. A weekend of tragedy. 😭
But, I can count on you, Clay, to come up with a good toon and great commentary.
