It's mind-boggling
I wasn’t just disappointed in my nation when it chose Donald Trump to be president (sic) again (sic). What added aggravation was Trump “winning” the popular vote. What the hell, America?
How could America not care that Trump is a felon, rapist, racist, grifting reality show host? How could America not care that they were saving a criminal from prison. How could America not care that Trump is a man who ordered an attack on this nation? How could America not care that Trump tried to steal the last election? How could America not care that Trump delegitimized our elections? How could America not care that he stole classified documents? How could America not care that he’s going to make existing here even more difficult because of his tariff plan? How could America not care he stole from a children’s cancer charity? How could America not care that he’s been banned from operating a charity? How could America not care that he told over 30,000 lies during his first term (sic)? How could America not care that he separated families and plans to do it again? How could America not care that he’s going to round up “illegals” which won’t just create a humanitarian crisis, but add to crashing the economy? How could America not care that he surrounds himself with goons? How can people not care that he’s going to allow goons like Stephen Baby Goebbels Miller to decide who gets to come into this nation? How could America not care that he will give us forty more years of right-wing goosesteppers like Brett Kavanaugh? How could America not care that he’ll make abortion illegal across the nation? How could America not care that he’ll take away other rights? How could America not care that he’ll continue to grift taxpayers? How could America not care that he’s still hawking shitty Trump products? How could America not care that he’s going to weaponize the Justice Department? How could America not care that he’s going after his perceived enemies? How could America not care that he loves Putin so much? How could America not care that Ukraine will be sold out? How could America not care that he has an obvious mental problem? How could America not care that he’s stupid? How could America not care that he’s a traitor? How could America not care that he praises Nazis? How could America not care that his playing down and lying about the pandemic killed over one million people? How could America not care that Trump is already the worst president in American history?
How could this nation not care?
This morning brought more disappointment because a new poll shows that 55 percent of Americans are happy with Trump’s transition so far. Despite Pam Bondi, Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, Dr Oz, RFK Jr, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, Marco Rubio, and giving ambassadorships to his family, America is happy with his transition. Are we in for a smooth transition from Democracy to a fascist kakistocracy?
I met several people totally disgusted that we would “elect” Trump again, but I was depressed even more while overseas when I came across people, though not total Trumpers, pretty much into Trump. I had one guy in Iceland argue with me that Trump is not a felon, and I had to inform him that Trump being a felon is NOT my opinion, but a fact. I had another in London tell me that Trump learned from all his mistakes from his first presidency, which will now make him the greatest president in history during his second term. I had people in London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, and Reykjavik tell me Trump, Biden, and Harris were all the same. It was disappointing to meet so many people with closed minds. It was disappointing to meet so many people with very strong opinions about subjects they were totally ignorant about, and they couldn’t listen. You do have to remember that a lot of these idiots also voted for Brexit. I should have spent more time in Scotland.
The normalization of Trump here and overseas is very depressing and frustrating.
One guy in Dublin got mad and walked away from me. He criticized Trump but asked me, “Do you honestly believe Joe Biden was good for America?” I said, “Hell yes, he was.” The guy asked me to give one reason. He got mad and walked away when I pointed out the infrastructure package, the vaccine roll-out, his judicial appointments, rallying the world around Ukraine, expanding NATO, and most of all, his cleaning up of the Trump mess and creating the best economy on the planet.
It was like everyone wanted to give me their critical opinion about America but didn’t want to hear one from the guy who’s actually from America.
One thing I got from my trip is that I still love America and I’m proud to be an American. If anything, it strengthened my resolve to fight for my country. One person in Dublin jokingly said I was an arrogant American and I replied, “No, I’m THE arrogant American.” But if MAGAts can say “America is not great," which is literally the claim in their slogan, then I can criticize America too. We’re a racist country. It’s the only reason we rejected Vice President Kamala Haris for that treasonous turd.
And on my first night back in the States, I was disappointed again. First, I was disappointed that the first thing on the appetizer menu was cauliflower wings. I had just returned from Europe and was starving for something American and the last thing I wanted to see for my first thing was something wimpy like cauliflower wings. Cauliflower should never be described as anything other than cauliflower. You’re breaking my heart, America. That’s even more frustrating than chicken breast or other chicken food-like products being described as “boneless” wings. I don’t care what sauce you put on it. America, if it’s boneless, it’s NOT wings! And then, I get into a conversation about sports with a guy in Baltimore. We’re having a few beers and all’s going well when suddenly he said something stupid about how he’ll never support the NFL again because of “those guys kneeling at the flag.” Ugh. It was a reminder of the stupid moronic shit I returned to. That made me want to turn around and go back to the airport. As The Clash said, London’s calling.
But no, I feel have to stay and fight. I can’t give up on this nation just yet. Would I like to pack up my telecaster and go live in a flat in Kensington? Of course, I would. But I Feel like I need to be here. But, America, you could always change my mind.
So, when you wonder how so many people can support Luigo Mangione, the shooting-a-guy-in-the-back suspect in the assassination of the CEO of the nation’s larger claim-denying insurance company, I give you the election of Donald Trump.
Cry me an American river.

I had no idea that cauliflower even had wings!!! But seriously, Clay, I'm glad you're staying to fight ... I considered fleeing, but it's people like you who convince me that this nation is still worth fighting for. At 73, I have little left to fight with other than my words, but I shall give it my best shot.
Maybe the cockroaches deserve to inherit the Earth. I'm trying to find hope for the human race, find hope in the human race, but I tell ya, it's not easy these days. My inner optimist is struggling to stay lit.
