Still shaking my head. In the category of you really can’t make this up:

the irony of being killed at the same time you are spouting your support for the 2nd amendment.

Paul Davis's avatar

The irony is indeed thick.

Excellent blog!!

Perfect. Unfortunate that news of his death drowned out coverage of a shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado. Where two innocents were shot. The details are hard to come by because of the never-ending Kirk coverage., But it appears that two girls were shot by another student. The shooter and one of the girls are critical. Not one word on MSNBC, not even a mention on the Kyron. Shame on the MSM.

Beth Winfrey's avatar

I have more sympathy for the students at the school in Denver than for that stupid man.

Paul Davis's avatar

The MSM is driven by the need to garner clicks and hits. This is surely doing that.

Bob Kent's avatar

Bingo, Clay. Just perfect

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

I’m channeling my mother (z”l) in saying “please don’t let the shooter be….” Fill in the blank. For Mom and me it’s a Liberal, someone Jewish, Black, Muslim, Asian American, LGBTQIA, immigrant, or anyone at whom they throw hate. Kirk will be a martyr no matter what. Others of us will live in greater fear if so. Guns, hate, promoting hate… they could put a stop to it. They won’t.

Paul Davis's avatar

I don't think they could put a stop to it, but they surely could quit throwing logs on the fire.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

Yes. You’re correct, Paul. To put a stop would mean finding empathy, changing ALL their tactics, etc. They “added logs” by JD going to Utah v NY on this day made sacred by international terrorists; flags lowered through the weekend - because Kirk is alleged to have ‘spoken truth’, making hate the platform.

Paul Davis's avatar

Hate is their platform, and has been a growing part of the platform since Nixon's "southern strategy".

Their problem, and the reason why they are so vehement now, is because hate just isn't enough any more. Hatred of black people doesn't do it now, so they added in immigrants (even though they want them) and they added in gays and lesbians, and they still have to lie about their real interests. Trump lied SO HARD about prices it was unreal.

Many of the MAGA crowd won't vote in any election where Trump isn't running. When he's gone, they won't vote any more because the hero will be gone. Trump's current life expectancy, nearly as I can figure, is 83.7. And that's not accounting for his high stress lifestyle. He'll be lucky to finish four years.

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

God, I hope you're right!

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

I think the hate is so entrenched that when he’s gone, it will live on.

And @Paul, the “Dixiecrats” did a fine job of hate and they became Republicans. That’s my earliest memory and my history lessons are not top of mind. We know that rights for those enslaved even when freed were limited. So hate has been America’s platform hasn’t it?

Paul Davis's avatar

Hate is wearing out as a political tool. That's why they keep adding more people to hate, because it's not working like it did in the past.

On top of that, the main engine of the propaganda machine is running low on gas. It's very clear that 24/7 cable news channels are no longer profitable. I just do not believe that a fragmented gang of bloggers and bloviators will ever command the same level of reach. Pretty good chance that 24/7 cable news will die in a decade or less.

They’ve now put out another photo of a “person of interest.” I am trying to see better the image on the shirt. And am anxious.

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

Joan, I saw one photo, and it looked to me like a flag and either a gun or the state of Florida over the front of the flag. Guns and Florida look a lot the same to me. Could be my eyes, could be my TV, could be I'm just too damn old. Hard to know anymore!

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

It did look like a gun in the shape of FL. We may watch pbs news tonight and mute any MAGAts.

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

Joan, I was just on Facebook and someone posted a photo of a shirt she saw online that looks like what he was wearing - it's a flag with an eagle, wings extended sort of behind it, like it's landing, and the head sort of lowered. I'm pretty sure that's what it is. It looks MUCH more like it than a gun or Florida! LOL!

April Wilber-Griest's avatar

I thought the shirt had on it an American flag, an eagle, and DJT (!). 😳

I didn't see your comment, Jean, until after I supplemented my response to Joan above. I think you're right about the eagle!

Brian B Bednarek's avatar

Well stated, but you know that the Maga folk will think you are an asshole and I know you are fine with it, just like I am when my family says the same to me for not being a Fox Zombie!!!

Karyn Milos's avatar

I will not celebrate anyone's death--no, not even THAT one 🍊 --but when someone who does more harm than good passes, I do breathe a sigh of relief. My hope is that his children will grow up to have a more humane approach to not only gun control but to their fellow humans overall.

Violence except for self-defense is wrong. This nation, nay, the entire world is a tinderbox now with thus, Russia overflying Poland with drones and Israel bombing a building in Qatar.

Paul Davis's avatar

I would wager you much, that many LGBTQ+ folks would say Kirk's death was self defense. Not saying I'd agree, but there is an argument to be made there, and it's not easily dismissed without simply ignoring who Kirk was.

Peter Tunon's avatar

Oh no! You forgot to add the thoughts and prayers part!

Akenta's avatar

when I heard about this, that was the first thing I did "thoughts and prayers" because that's JUST what we do.

I also don't wish bad things on anybody, even people I really don't like. It's not right. Probably means that I am a woke weeny or something, but I don't care.

Really annoying things (for them), sure...

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

Sometimes it's really good to be a 'woke weeny'. :) Don't stop!

Spot on...sad subject for our country.

As always Clay: well thought out, perfectly written, completely on point and never shrinking from telling THE WHOLE BITTER TRUTH about MAGA ASSHOLES.

What happened today, as sad, disgusting and despicable, was KARMA IN ACTION. Living by twisting the Second Amendment and dying the same way. For this person, it really was inevitable.

Too bad he was never sorry for the thousands of young lives destroyed and ruining by his hate spewing crap. Now, ANOTHER VICTIM, just like them. Boo hoo.

Paul Davis's avatar

It is inevitable that many are going to go down that path over the next few years.

Democrats can fight and die, or refuse to fight and die anyway. It's the nature of the times.
