Snow Driver
Virginians can't drive in the snow
This was drawn for the Fredericksburg Advance.
Our snow is melting, but I still can't walk to the bus stop because the sidewalks are still covered in snow. The only way around that is for me to walk on the street, but the street in front of my apartment is a highway, so that's not happening. I'm not limping along in the street with a cane.
I submitted this idea to my editor last week, but we decided to go with the one on the Post. My editor believed it was still relevant this week, and I think it is too.
Once in Southern California, over 25 years ago, I was hanging out with cartoonist Michael Ramirez (when we were friends), and we were driving from San Diego to Los Angeles. I was the one driving, and it was Michael's car. It started to rain, and he seemed very worried and told me to be extremely careful. I was thinking that was kind of weird because the rain wasn't really heavy. But Michael pointed out that Southern Californians can't drive in the rain because it never rains. That's how it is in Virginia. It never snows, but when it does snow, it snows a lot. And Virginians can not drive in the snow. Most of them can't drive in any condition.
The good news is, it's starting to warm up. We're not in the teens anymore. The days are getting longer. Soon, it will start warming up. I'm going to love that for about two weeks, and then summer weather will hit. As for today, it's supposed to be gray and rainy.
I don't have central air. I have a machine that does cold and hot, like those machines in a motel. But my unit is messing up. Half the time it doesn't wanna work at all, and the other half is very loud and makes the place smell like burned rubber. My landlady told me that she's buying a new one, but she said that last Tuesday, and I haven't heard from her since.
The unit didn't want to do anything last night except burn electricity, and I nearly froze. I slept with two shirts on. This place is ridiculous.
This is probably why my electric bill has been extremely higher than usual.
Olympics: Have you been watching the Olympics? You have less than a week left to watch. I start my day with the news, and then I switch over to Peacock, where you have several options of which event you want to watch. I watched figure skating, skiing, snowboarding, and I try to catch every hockey game, men’s and women's. I've also watched a lot of curling. There's a lot of screaming in curling. Despite watching a lot of it, I still don't understand it. I have decided that I do not want to understand it, but I still enjoy watching it. It makes me believe that cornhole should be an Olympic event.
Lisa: The stroke has brought out a lot of people whom I haven't seen in a while. Yesterday, my friend Lisa visited me, whom I haven't seen in over a decade. And I got to meet her son. It was a great visit, and I showed him how to draw on my iPad. I don't think Lisa liked these photos, so don't tell her I posted one.
Creative note: I'm trying not to overdo it and work too hard, but I ended up drawing two cartoons on Friday. I'm trying to save Fridays to draw for the Advance, but I didn't see anything to work on in the morning, so decided to create something for the blog and syndicate. That was my Nancy Guthrie cartoon. But later in the day, Martin asked me if I had finished this c. I didn't realize that he wanted it. So that night, I finished this up.
I'm taking the rest of today off. See you tomorrow.
Drawn in 30 seconds.

Signed prints and books: I cannot take orders for signed prints or for my books at this time. So please do not send me money or place orders for them until further notice. Because of the stroke, it is an ordeal for me to get to the post office, so we’re gonna hold up until I’m fully capable of doing so. Thank you for your understanding.
Merch: Did you know there’s a Claytoonz store? My cartoons are printed on mugs, clothing, caps, and even a Peezy T-shirt. If you ever want a specific cartoon on some merch, let me know, and I’ll add it.

Yep, I am in Michigan and it is a fact, lots of people can't drive on snow and ice and they are dangerous on the road. Clever, that snow man, Clay. I admire that clever brain of yours. Keep on❤️
Spot-on toon and blog.
