Roughs, Volume 251
Ding-Dong! Roughs are here!
The last blog of roughs was on March 11, and I’m trying to get better about posting these sooner rather than later.
If you’re reading this blog in your email, you might want to check the website version too because Substack tells me it’s over the limit for the emails. It’s too long. Visit the blog if you want to make sure you didn’t miss anything. There’s a penis in the last cartoon, so make sure you don’t miss that.
This was drawn on March 13 for the FXBG Advance. Check it out.
This was drawn on March 15. I didn’t even finish roughing it out, but there is a completed version.
This and the next two were drawn on March 17. I was struggling with what to do on Trump shuttering the Department of Education, the idiot. I had a hard time getting into this version.
I bounced these off a friend who was no help. She couldn’t pick one but she really liked the “We don’t need no education” concept because she’s a huge Pink Floyd fan.
I liked this one, but I eventually went with this. Should I have done one of these Pink Floyd-inspired cartoons? These are not rhetorical questions and I’d love to hear your input.
This and the next three were drawn on March 19, when I was struggling with Trump’s illegal deportations and violating a Judge’s order. I was afraid nobody would get this. Do you get this? I won’t cry if you don’t.
That’s supposed to be Stephen Miller in the car with Trump.
This one wasn’t clicking for me. I think ideas like this are great when they first arrive in my head, and then I ask myself, “What’s wrong with you?”
Then I switched over to this, and I liked it so much…
…that I drew it twice. But I changed it up to this.
This and the next one were drawn for the Advance last Thursday, March 20.
I liked this one better, and so did my editor for the week, Adele. It turned into this.
I returned to Trump violating the judge’s order on March 21, but this kinda bored me.
I drew this on March 24, but I had to push it aside for another issue. I eventually went with this idea but I tried another version first.
I tried this the next day, March 26, but went back to Cocoa Puffs. Did I make the right call? Which do you like better, Cocoa Puffs or Holiday Inn Express? Have you ever had Cocoa Puffs while staying at a Holiday Inn Express? What’s wrong with me?
Also, I lied about the penis.

As for the cartoons, I really like the third version of the Pink Floyd one, with the beer-swilling Maganaut. It's still relevant, so if the spirit moves you to polish and publish, go for it.
The tunnel one with Orange Man and his Reich Hand Man is also very good. I caught it right away.
I like the Pink Floyd ones. I like the music and just reading the lyric I hear it.
