Rocked Lobster
Do you prefer your sexual scandals with melted butter or without?
While the Republican Party has always been seen as the corrupt party, the greedy party, the lying party, the cheating party, the racist party, the pedophile party, the hypocritical party, and the we-don't-care-about-you-unless-you-are-rich party, the Democratic Party has always been deemed the stupid party.
That is not entirely fair, as the GOP is pretty stupid in itself, but what's going on now in Maine with the Democratic Senate candidate isn't helping to erase the image that they are the stupid party.
Democrats in Maine and nationally are racing to find a new Senate candidate, as the current candidate, Graham Platner, is expected to drop his bid after a rape allegation has rocked his campaign and prompted his most prominent backers to abandon him, like Ro Khanna, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders.
If the scandal-plagued Platner does withdraw before the Monday deadline, Democrats will need to act quickly. Maine state law would give the party just over two weeks to identify a replacement. The law does not determine how that process would work, but the options being discussed include a convention or a statewide caucus in late July. Did I mention that they have to hurry?
Platner is looking to drop out, but he's trying to decide how. According to sources, he wants to have influence and a say in his replacement. Democrats need to tell him thanks for nothing and to fuck off.
Susan Collins, the Republican senator, who has been representing the state since 1997, is beatable, and looking at the polls, it seems like voters in Maine want to get rid of her. But they are not going to get rid of her for just anyone. So the new candidate that the Democratic Party chooses will have to be vetted, and quickly. That's easier said than done, looking at the bang-up job they did on the vetting of Platner.
Maybe this time, the party needs to look in the new candidate’s closet for skeletons instead of just trusting that there are none there.
It’s often said that a Democrat's worst enemy is the Democratic Party. There have been many times in the past when Democrats have beaten themselves in an election, and it looks like they are about to do it again.
Yes, Republicans are worse than the Democrats when it comes to sex scandals, but that’s not going to win this election for liberals.
It looks like Susan Collins has been saved once again from being thrown into the pot of boiling water, and this time her savior is the Democratic Party, which appears to have gotten ahead of itself and melted its butter too early. Did I stretch that analogy too far?
Creative note: I created a cartoon at the beginning of June, on my birthday, featuring a lobster. I don't wanna overplay my hand, so I'll try to lay off the lobster cartoons for the next few months. But no promises. No, I did not get a lobster on my birthday.

Because of the stroke, it is an ordeal for me to get to the post office, so we’re gonna hold up until I’m fully capable of doing so. Thank you for your understanding.
Merch: Did you know there’s a Claytoonz store? My cartoons are printed on mugs, clothing, caps, and even a Peezy T-shirt. If you ever want a specific cartoon on some merch, let me know, and I’ll add it.

True words, Clay. True words. And it’s so damn sad. Vetting candidates should be a no-brainer. And choosing candidates who have actually been elected to some position before so that there has been some pre-vetting, seems, again, like a no-brainer.
Did I miss finding Peezy somewhere?
The Maine Democrats let “the people” decide in a primary and they chose a complete whack job. Now it’s OMG now what? Maybe the should have gone after a lobsterman rather than an oyster “farmer”. Cmon Dems…. No more Fettermans, No more Platners. Let’s find sane candidates and leave the whackos to the REPUGNANTCANTS …
