For a long time I read the NY Times and the Washington Post every day. Online, of course. After Ann Telnaes quit I dropped my WAPO sub and signed up with her. And with you. And a bunch more. I'm not sure what the future of journalism is, but I'm sticking with people who live in the fact-based universe. Keep on keeping on, dude!

Very appropriate. They have been dead to me since November of 2024. This was just the final blow.

About that R.I.P…

I’ve read today that not one, but two groups made serious contact with Bezos about purchasing the Post. The leader of one group, Kara Swisher wanted to discuss a full purchase. The other, another bunch of DC area people, wanted to buy the functions (sports, books, etc.) that the Post ended up dumping this week.

Bezos ghosted both groups.

WTF?

This all wasn’t about business. He could’ve done well if he wanted to get out.

What I don’t get is, if he wanted to just bury the newspaper, why he didn’t shut the doors completely a couple years ago. “Pffft. I am wealthy. I can do what I want. I blow my nose in your general direction.”

I am of the belief that many, if not all, of these really wealthy people are mentally/emotionally damaged. They are missing something, umm, bigly. Even all this stupid DOGE stuff, crypto BS, ruining businesses, and ruining people (like Epstein victims) isn’t working for them. Plus, they just plain aren’t as smart as they want to believe. Lucky, yeah. Ruthless, yeah. Unprincipled, yeah. Empty?

The Hanks for this, CVG. We wondered if David Rubenstein had expressed interest. He’s underwritten other Washington monuments and institutions. I’ve thought Bezos had begun to change the tenor even more of WaPo after the 2nd Trump nightmare. I fear what’s ahead and hate all the good people pushed out.

For your reading, ahh, pleasure?

It's also strange that the publisher who stomped on the gas pedal while the WaPo was screaming toward the cliff suddenly resigned yesterday. Mission accomplished? Sudden realization of guilt?

Sucking up to Trump. No other reason. Kill it slowly so it can't be rebuilt and hopefully Trump loves him and gives Blue Origin many contracts. Not likely to happen. Bezos does not understand the one way loyalty of Trump.

This couldn’t be more perfect, Clay.

(I wrote that when l saw the cartoon but hadn’t read the blog.)

So glad you support the Advance and others like it; so glad you got out and enjoyed meeting folks.

P. S. The shrimp dish looked amazing!

Perhaps someone can gather up the pieces and create a Post Post paper. I too miss the Post everyday thought I’m on the west coast and just had the online version.

Glad you went to the party and had fun. Like your toon, but am not ready for TWP's demise. I think of it as in need of an intervention that will take it to rehab.

As a longtime lover of the Washington Post, I feel you.

A nice tribute. Too bad it's needed. I recognize That pen on the left. I'm using one just like it. It's the third brand I've used, thanks to my insurance company. I just got a new meter when they decided not to pay for the old one's supplies. I'm still using the old one until the strips run out.

I cancelled my WAPO subscription yesterday. Sad, because I enjoyed many of their articles. Now I’m focusing on avoiding Amazon, which is difficult since in Fairbanks we have so few purchasing options.
