I really miss newspapers. My Dad worked in the composing room of the World/Tribune in Tulsa (two separate papers, but same linotype operators, building, and presses). Same thing happened everywhere basically so area news isn’t covered as is used to be, and that’s a detriment. I miss the feel of it in my hands as well as the expectation of a small break in the day with a cup of coffee. Oh well, growing older really isn’t for sissies!
Ditto. In my hometown, we had a morning and afternoon paper. Same owner; different staffs except those of us who worked in classified ads. (A stint of a number of years that I loved.). In DC now, I got the Post for years. In print. Delivered to my apartment door. Sigh. Digital now still for the obits and local news.
Oh Clay, I love the stories and that the statue is at the hotel. Too few hotel owners care about more than income and rarely know the history of where they are. Fewer still (except 21c Hotels) have art. This statue will be, I hope, where visitors want to have their pictures taken. I miss good print papers, carriers & newsboys which is why the musical, “Newsies”, is a favorite.
“a brick from the old newspaper building is on my window sill”
I hope you didn’t acquire that brick from it being thrown through your window by someone who was pissed about your “Mooning Lance” Graphic Editorial. 😉
Entertaining and historic toon and blog.
"more interest in bleeding it dry for all they could get."
Seems like there's a lot of that going around these days. Not just in newspapers, either.

Berryman-worthy
I'm curious. Why did you select that particular contest?
Local commentary. I know there are others, but wasn't thinking so fast.
