I have to admit, I've never heard of the ad. Then again, I tend to tune out all commercials. I don't think I've ever bought anything based on a commercial.
Speaking of misleading ads, the ones for governor are annoying me, especially the Becerra ones. There's another one that I've heard but have no idea who it supports. I keep MSNOW on nearly all day, but rarely actually watch, though I like Lawrence O'Donnell. It's background noise for Nomi if I'm not home. If I watch a taped show, I fast forward the commercials. Advertisers are wasting money on me. :-)
I agree with you. I won't watch ANYTHING with ads, no matter how great it is supposed to be. I ignore all ads. I was just saying yesterday to my husband "Does anyone actually buy anything based on all this advertisement?" What a waste of money that we pay thru higher prices for the things we do care to buy!
I have to agree about the ads. Everything goes on the DVR, and I fast-forward through all the commercials. Most are very annoying; they repeat them over and over on the same programs, and I won't buy 99% of what they are advertising anyway. So they are wasting all that money on me as well. MSNOW also runs between watching what's on the DVR. Mostly with the sound off, unless something catches my attention, and then I turn on the sound.
I haven't heard that commercial in quite a while. Like most other people I thought the money went to some local charity that helped kids in some way. Bravo to the man who brought the suit.
My guess is most people think it’s to help local people. Even if it says on their webpage, it’s not being clear in TV or radio ads. Too, I think it’s not antisemitism driving the lawsuit and rather anti-Israel’s actions in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon that is driving the outrage.
I’m so glad I’ve never heard the jingle and that we stream mostly non-US shows on platforms without commercials, on PBS that has no commercials and where I’m angry they have to raise more bc of Trump & Co.
I miss PBS weekend news. Is there any good 30-60 minute news on weekends? Not the talking heads shows. Not the once great 60 Minutes. Just news, not commercials.
I went to the website. It says the word "Jewish" once on the front page, way down. And it says "registered nonprofit Jewish organization" not "we only support Jewish kids". There's a lot of Christian groups that don't even ask what religion a child is when they're helping. Without going all over the site checking stuff, I'd have thought they were the same.
Whenever that commercial comes on, I can't mute it fast enough!
In the age of Trump, we can no longer rule out any possibility as being too outlandish. Though your cartoon cleverly and jokingly portrays a switch from "Kars-4-Kids" to "Kars-4-Trump," it's hardly far fetched to imagine Trump introducing another new scam before the day is through!
Love Trump's hot pink guitar, Peezy atop the woman's bun, and the incredulous expressions on everyone's faces, including Goldie's and the black cat's eyes!
LOL! Oh, I wish they'd ban that stupid jingle in Florida and/or on XM radio... I hate it, as soon as I hear the first note, I switch channels! Last week I switched from MSNow because of that stupid ad, but the next 2 channels I went to were also playing it!! I shut down XM & switched over to FM for 5 minutes just to avoid it. Even if they really used car donations for needy children, I probably wouldn't call just because that damn jingle is so annoying. I have donated 2 cars in my lifetime, both to veterans groups that I researched to be sure they REALLY helped veterans. Great 'toon, Clay, even though it triggered that damn ear worm just by reading it!! Now I have to find a break the ear worm song to play in my head...
This 'toon highlights what this current administration has become - everything is about greed and taking as much as they can using illegal and corrupt methods. There are no guardrails or desire to behave in law-abiding ways or adhere to the laws. The office of the president is to take an oath to defend the US Constitution and to take care that the laws of the United States are faithfully executed. This administration has proved over and over again the US Constitution is a piece of paper to be used to unspeakable purposes. The toddler-in-chief and congress are only doing what the hateful, racist and vengeful trump voters wanted - tear down the USA.
I've reached the point where I assume that any charitable ask is a scam. It's up to them to prove otherwise.
Don't think I've ever heard the Kars4Kids thing, not surprised it was a scam. They met my expectations.
We made it far too easy to create a "charity", and far too easy to assign all the money to the guys running it or to do whatever that wasn't in the ads. That this was a religious based organization that was intentionally hiding their religious connections just makes it worse.
And it was Jewish. OMG! Is there a plot by Jews to utterly discredit Jews? Some days it sure does seem like it.
Haha! As soon as I saw this news, I thought of you, Clay. I never heard the jingle (and I don't care to) and did wonder what Kars4Kids meant. I agree that "Kars4JewishAdolescentPilgramagesToIsreal" would be difficult to set to music. Note: I am not against the use of the funds, but as a donor I would like to know how the funds would be used. We are going through that exercise now for our estate plan - if we donate to an organization, we would like the funds to be used for xyz.
Per the laws in Virginia at the time Washington was alive, the only way slaves could be legally freed was to free them upon the owner's death. That's a detail the gleeful "biographers" generally leave out. And his will spells out that he wanted them freed on his wife's death, because he couldn't free her slaves and they had all married together, thus he'd have broken up families had he done so. And a bit of a side note here, it got much worse after Gabriel's Rebellion, slaves freed by any means had to leave the state within a year or be enslaved again.
Yep. Southern states had a plethora of laws, weird as well as evil, that our 'modern sensibilities' cannot well grasp. It quite irks me about so-called educated people trying to apply our 'modern rules and mores' to history.
Guess I might have problems in some states with my 'Kondoms4Kidz' jingle then......
(On the bright side, there are no doubt plenty of other offensive scamming opportunities out there looking for an earworm to promote them...)
In that case though, you kind of hope they're for older teens.
When will it end?
not soon enough!

"Call 1-877-Kash-4-Kons"
That’s the phone number for insurrections to file their January 6 persecution claims.
Good one, JC!
It is sketchy to use proceeds from car donations "for kids" to buy a building overseas. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

The Afikomen (my word used instead of Easter Eggs since it is hidden too to make this more ecumenical) were plentiful in this.
I had to look that up. Very appropriate!
Thank you for looking it up. It was during Passover planning that made me think of Oy.
love how you call it "the Afikomen"!

You are not wrong. You have to be suspicious of everything now.

To any readers, restackers, etc., as Clay implies, DO NOT EVEN try to use our founders flaws and shortcomings to justify magat behavior.
A note on Washington and his slaves.

And another note, when he says "dower" the modern usage would probably be "dowery".
