GRRRRRR....I am so tired of the orange idiot. I hope I live to see sanity return. I would like to go to the Smithsonian but I would rapidly reach information overload.
It's unreal that this can happen in OUR country! I wish I'd been able to stay longer in DC when I was there, and I would have spent more time at the Smithsonian. The parts I saw were amazing and worth the aggravation to my bum knee and sciatica! I'd have to spend a couple of months there to see everything that I wanted to see and still get in some time to harrass the assholes that support the Mango Maniac and his followers (and then probably spend some time in jail for that).
Next time rent a mobility scooter. The museums are treasures. I most worry about what any of the MAGAts think they can do for the Mus of African American. History & Culture to make it in their ideology: people so desperate to leave their homes they begged to be put in chains to come and be separated from their children and then all auctioned for the privilege of being beaten, worked to death & raped?
Susan, I prefer that most animals be free, too. But these days, most zoos focus on providing a natural habitat for the animals. Many of them ensure that endangered species don't become extinct. Those 2 things help to make me feel much better than I used to about zoos in general. I used to hate going to them and haven't been to one since my son was very young (and I used to cry almost every time!). It seems to be a cruel way to treat those precious creatures, but at least they're much improved over the 'olden days'. And they keep improving!
Great message here, (re-)naming names and pulling no punches.
We are living in an increasingly disturbing graphic novel. As Jonathan Edward Durham tweeted (from Jay Kuo's The Status Kuo): "So the worst genre is definitely dystopian nonfiction".
It strikes me as more of this "quick, pwn the libs, the suckers are catching wise" stuff that's been going on since day one.
JD will find some minor thing and make a big noise about it being "WOKE", which they can't even define, the MAGA idiots will cheer and forget about their USDA checks for a day or two.
Biographies of Jackie Robinson and MLK Jr. (along with about 900 other titles) have been removed from the Naval Academy Library. The Pentagon removed biographical information on Jackie Robinson but put it back after an uproar was made.
I'm also worried about Greenlanders and their polar bears. Wherever couch dude shows up there is trepidation, fear and disgust. It was horrible to see him lie about pets and Haitians. Now he's threatening the sovereignity of Greenland. If the orange regime decide to withdraw the USA from NATO, Greenlanders and Denmark as well as other countries could decide to kick out U.S. military bases in their countries, which could lead to massive destabilization in the world. Nobody wants their country to be occupied by threatening and hostile entities. Not Palestinians, not Greenlanders, not citizens of the USA and visitors from other countries who want to visit uncensured zoos, museums and other attractions. The orange regime is trying so desperately to exert power like a schoolyard bully instead of learning from history that peaceful cooperative alliances are more beneficial to all of us on planet Earth. Sigh.
Thing is, I work for the military as a contractor, and I'm aware of a good bit of malicious compliance.
You really think they had a meeting at the White House and Trump said "cut that savage out of the history of Iwo Jima"? Malicious compliance puts the guy giving the stupid order in the worst possible light, by following EXACTLY what it says.
Trump's stupid, but I doubt he's THAT stupid. And I would bet a good bit that he's so far into his bubble, he has ZERO idea that this stuff (vanishing Medal of Honor winners, photoshopping Iwo Jima pictures, removing the Enola Gay because of a word with multiple meanings) is being done.
They could have done what was intended, but they went overboard to make Trump look bad. Republicans can kiss that military vote goodbye for a LONG time.
Incidentally, the internment of the Japanese during WWII was in my high school history books. And I went to school in Kentucky. Whenever you discuss Kentucky education, you have to remember that a third of the state is Appalachia, which drags down every possible measure of the state due to extreme poverty and lack of infrastructure.
And I have wondered just how many lives the internment saved. The hatred for Japanese during the war was absolutely palpable, reading anything from that time is like visiting Mars. Look up Dr. Seuss WWII cartoons about the Japanese. And I've seen much worse in my reading of history. I can guarantee that some would have been killed had they not been locked away, I have no idea how many.
Just in case some folks are cleaning that up, here's the history at Hampton Roads. (Hmm, hope Trump doesn't notice it. Oh well, he'd probably love it.)
I've met quite a few Democrats who are nervous about the wild and crazy claims made about Democrats by the more truth challenged of the FreeDumb Caucus. Remember the applause when that guy got up at a rally and wanted to know when they could start shooting Democrats?
Multiply that by 1000, and you're looking at being a Japanese in America during WWII.
Clay and I are just going to have to agree to disagree on whether or not there'd have been murders. While admitted, the Niihau matter did not result in those involved being killed summarily, the people handling it were disciplined military, not a gang of farmers or something. That entire state was under martial law at that time.
"Everything Donald Trump touches dies." That sums up the whole mess, right there. He's got the Minus Touch.
Excellent, excellent blog accompanying the sad reality depicted by the cartoon.
That first sentence hits all the marks! Arrogance plus pettiness plus incompetence is definitely not a combination leading to success.
Clay, I love your little monkey hanging from the tree!
He's just monkeying around.
And still would be a better president than DJT.
I fear for all the animals at the zoo!
I fear for all animals, vegetables, and minerals at this point! Nothing is safe anymore.
Unfortunately you are right.

I love this toon and blog...the book being red and the perfect drawing of JD. I do fear for the animals, who should be free in nature.

Thank you, Clay.

As I was reading this I was thinking about NYT's Magazine's 3.30.25 issue and its article:
'Unburying the Remains of the Third Reich
As the German right ascends, the nation is still grappling with its fascist past — and how to handle its remains.'
Is this the US post-Trump? Hopefully Trump 2.01 won't last that long and the damages not that horrid.

It's also worth pointing out that nobody ever mentions the Japanese occupation of islands that were part of Alaska.
I mentioned Japan's invasion of the Aleutian Islands a few days ago, but I'm missing how that's relevant here.
Just that it's left out of most WWII history classes, at least below college level.
