Not to mention... as the identify of SARS-CoV2 was discovered (by Science!) and Gov.Walz in Minnesota was quick on the stick to order 10 respirators they quickly found... and sent the Highway Patrol for escort on the truck... they disappeared. Nobody asked... CDC, White House task force, FBI, manufacturer... said, did, or looked around for a thing. Perhaps they were the ones Spanky sent to Russia. Perhaps not. but definitely Team Spanky was so very curiously obtuse. I will never forget this. You shouldn't either.
Before the conspiracies flow... yes, MNHP saw them loaded and sealed the truck... yes, they were under constant surveillance, including an overnight motel stay... and yes, the truck arrived in the Twin Cities empty. there was some high level skulduggery involved.
Love this toon (2 witches and a super ear diaper) and time-lined blog. I heard about this movie only Thursday night, as Sally Field was on Stephen Colbert. Definitely will watch it.
If you're into octopus now, you might like this book "Other Minds: The octopus, the sea, and the deep origins of consciousness" by Peter Godfrey-Smith.
When I first heard about that Hanta virus, my first thought was Covid 2.0 - another disease he'll screw up and kill people. And this time, we don't have Fauci or other real experts around. God help us if it comes here!
I enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures, too! I live in the PNW and decided a few years ago that I can no longer eat octopus because they are far too intelligent!
Excellent cartoon and the blog should be widely distributed. Why? Because people are short on memory. They remember the lies even when revealed as lies, and those beliefs are even more contagious than the viruses. Hantavirus has an even higher mortality rate than SARS. Its saving grace is that normally it is transmitted through contact with rodent feces and not from another infected person, although cruise ships are exceptionally good incubators for viruses. If it were to mutate to be more easily transmitted from infected people to healthy ones we would be in severe trouble. There is no known cure for Hantavirus. And the public health system in the US, which was at one time the best in the world, has been gutted by the actions of Trump's first administration, which reduced trust in its agencies and science, and by his appointments of the detestable pair of RFK, Jr and Oz who, in their "reorganization" have lost capabilities that took decades to develop, undermining rapid response, outreach (both domestic and international) and more. In terms of epidemiology we are back in pre-war days, with both loss of expertise on the ground and of reportage of incidence. This is especially true of zoonoses. People must be reminded of the incompetence of Trump and his team, as well as their venality (actually, the MAGAts seem to approve of the venality.)
If viruses could award prizes, these people would be recipients. I'm sure the Tangerine Tyrant would accept his were it to be sufficiently pompously titled and came with a tacky medal, perhaps made of Antimony (although the name of the element would have to be changed, as the Mango Mussolini would not be pleased, thinking - as he sounded it out - that it was somehow opposed to capitalism. Stibnite, its most common form in nature, is shiny like his favorite metal, and could be alloyed with it and hung around his neck. The Egyptians used it as a cosmetic called kohl. JD Vance would probably be happy to promote it as eyeliner.
I'm not a big movie watcher, but I'll cheerfully read recommendations to keep in mind when the mood strikes me. Between movie ideas and meal reports, we can all use some happy things to balance out the bundles of WTF coming from DC on the daily.
I read the book and enjoyed it very much. I learned a bit about the Pacific Octopus and will admit I needed some tissues handy as everything came together at the end.
When the Hantavirus story broke and they mentioned that the Andes strain is probably transmitted person to person let alone how horrible is was it was upsetting. Right now I'm trying to put my head in the sand about it.
I'm just seeing this now. Really great cartoon--love Fauci, Oz, and RFK, Jr--and, of course, having Trump brag about his experience with pandemics, like he's an expert on the subject--yeah, an expert in bungling!
This took me back to the horrid days of Covid-19 and reminded me of that press conference when Trump asked about using bleach--mostly for the looks of shock/horror/disgust on both the faces of Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, who did their best to hide their reactions.
The utter cruelty with which Trump (mis)handled the virus, the amount of lies he told about the virus and the vaccine, his anti-mask insistence, the way he vilified Dr. Fauci, etc., can never be forgotten and, hopefully, will never be equaled.
He is the worst pandemic we've ever faced. The only cure is critical thinking. Spread the cure!
Gee, Trump is handling the “mini-excursion” to Iran almost exactly the same way as he managed the virus.

Watch them blame Biden and the Somalis.

I like any sea creature to be honest. I also recommend My Octopus Teacher.
Me too. That's why I concentrated on marine life for my research for my degrees.
Let’s not forget that at the same time he was villainizing the vaccine which was in short supply, he sent a batch to his idol, dear Vladimir.

I guess MAGAts considered Covid to be God's will, not Trump's fault.
I've only seen trailers of "Remarkably Bright Creatures", but they reminded me of 42 from 'Resident Alien'.
That's what I thought I was getting when I started to watch it.

I totally forgot to write about the actual virus.

Hmmmm… what does Peezy have to say in his defense? Rodent droppings may be a code word for Trumphuk’s health policies.

Your summary of Trump's indifference to the covid pandemic and his incompetence in dealing with it should be carried throughout the worldwide media.
