Oh. Now that Clay is, for the moment, well-stocked on Penzeys Spices, I will mention to those inclined to give them that local charities may welcome receiving donations of their spices. One organization here in Minneapolis, which serves people living with HIV/AIDS, loves using Penzeys Spices in their kitchen for the people who dine there. Also consider giving to food shelves; people on tight budgets welcome being able to add some flavor and variety to the basic food staples they live on. Supporting Penzeys and supporting people in your community is a win, all the way around!
Clay, you should come out with your own signature line of spices. You could call them "Peezy's Spices!" Then you could have an ad campaign for Peezy's Spices where the copy would go something like "9 out of 10 rats prefer Peezy's Spices on their pizza!"
OMG, @Karyn Milos - I LOVE that. Peezy on every jar?! Someone .. w/ any connection to Penzey's, show them all this. I bet their sales increase from Clay's stroke so they must owe him a lifetime supply assuming he lives to be 150 given the number of spices!!
Wait till after the holiday rush, then I suggest we start emailing Penzeys with our suggestion to create some Peezy Spices. 🙂 Pretty sure Bill Penzey, if he's not already a fan of Clay's, is a kindred spirit. He just might like the idea!
Well, I think the rest of us who thought about sending you some Penzeys Spices can cross that off our lists, at least for a few months. 😂 I must say, though, I'm disappointed you said your smile is fake. Here I thought it was natural joy that would come spontaneously to anyone receiving a treasure like that from Steve Sack. Having lived most of my life in MSP, I remember seeing--and liking--Steve's cartoons since way back when.
That shaggy beard does make you look like Shaggy. Scooby-Dooby-Dooooo!!!
Hey, Clay! What a great post, and my comments do not reflect the order of importance, only reflect the order in which my fingers type the words: I love the beard! I've always thought beards were sexy. My dad had one, and most of the men I've been attracted to have been bearded, so that's my 2 cents. Penzey's Spices are fantastic, and they're an amazing company. Aside from spices, they have a great social presence, treat their employees well, and have lovely merch. I love your Peezy statue! What a wonderful, thoughtful gift! You really hauled in some great stuff from many loving people this week. I'm glad Laura was able to get to the P.O. for you. How kind everyone has been - it shows just what a good person you are when people care about you like that. <3
I LOVE the Pizza Rat sculpture!!! I've never heard of Penzey's spices, but I just have to ask ... what flavour is the one labelled "Justice" ... sounds like something Felon Trump should have to eat! You do have some really awesome readers, Clay ... people love you, and with good reason. As re the beard ... I like it! Great 'toon ... poor Peazy, having to sit at the same table with such a bundle of human waste, but it was great to see him! Take care ... keep on getting well!
As I mentioned in a comment on FB, one of my friends is, I swear, addicted to the stuff. She uses it on damn near everything. 😂 I'm not quite that obsessed, but Justice is definitely a staple seasoning in my kitchen. I'm fortunate to have a Penzeys storefront right here in Uptown Minneapolis, but I also have placed plenty of online orders. They are a solid business.
So glad that so many of us are showing our appreciation of you. Perfect toon, and of course, a perfect blog. it’s so easy to be in your corner, Clay. For years, you have been a remarkable cartoonist showing us through your creativity and we had a skewer. The people who are trying to kill us. How could we not love you
By the way, Siri regularly changes words for me much to my annoyance. I love my Mac products, but Siri could learn a few lessons.😉
The cartoon makes me giggle thinking about him dozing and dream chasing. The beard looks good. The Pizza Rat sculpture and drawings! You have very good friends. I have heard of Penzey's but have never ordered from them. I do need to go through my spice cupboard though so it may happen soon. I'm glad Laura made you post the smiling picture even though you say it is a fake smile. Sunny good vibes to you and all the Peezeheads from SoCal.
Love the photo — you look great in that beard. But please keep it trimmed to keep it from getting shaggy. I also love the pizza rat sculpture— what a great gift!
And of course the cartoon. Perfect for Comatose Don. Why isn’t the Media picking up on this?! What a double standard.
Pretty sure an SOB like 47 can do a racist rant in his sleep. Great post!

Trump is insane and petty.
Understatement.
Exciting news. Never heard of Penzeys spices. Son is a chef, so I'm checking in with him.
Love that Pizza Rat, though I must say he doesn't look much like me, so that's a ding. Nonetheless, the statue is beast.
They are the prime spices .. as much for their great variety and use as their Progressive stances on issues. BUY BLUE is our motto!
I’m sure IQ47 has no idea that a shite-load of photos of him snoozing, drooling and nodding off are being published!
Read your Penzy spice jars and packets carefully. Some of them have political commentary on them! I’m a big Penzy ‘s fan.

LOL. Maybe Bill Penzey would be willing to team up with Clay to create a new salt-free blend named after Peezy.
Maybe not every jar, but at least one spice blend, or a line of several blends. Peezy's Picks?
YES! Love that. Peezy's Penzey Picks?!
Wait till after the holiday rush, then I suggest we start emailing Penzeys with our suggestion to create some Peezy Spices. 🙂 Pretty sure Bill Penzey, if he's not already a fan of Clay's, is a kindred spirit. He just might like the idea!
If we also tag on all social media posts, they will see!
Maybe some of the proceeds from every jar can go to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.
What a great idea!! Peezy could have a few different cheese flavored spices, at least a couple pizza spice mixes, and of course ratatouille spice!

ME TOO.. it looks so genuine and joyful at this gift .. your smile, Clay!

Thank you! That sounds good ... I think I'll order a jar!

Thanks for the link. It's been years since I looked at their website. WOW and all the little trial bags are inviting.
You're welcome. 🙂 Enjoy!
And this that is a header on the website: https://www.penzeys.com/shop/about-republicans/
For Trumphuk — crow flavored spice? Or turkey? There’s another … but I refrain …. 💩
🤣 Yep, perfect!!!

So enjoying your toon and blog...and personal commentary.
Clay, here's why we ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Penzey's!

Love the beard and the Pizza Rat sculpture!
Sprinkle Justice on your eggs and Mural of Flavor on everything (my favorites).
Great to see you back in action.

Keep the beard but get it trimmed. It suits you.
I agree that it looks great on him! So does the joyful smile - I refuse to believe it is fake.
