The FCC Chair is threatening to revoke broadcast licenses for the way stations cover Trump's war on Iran
The worst Secretary of Defense in our nation’s history snapped at a reporter last week when she asked if America's war mongers had considered that Iran would block the Strait of Hormuz.
Pete Hegseth whined, “Fake news from CNN reports that the Trump administration underestimated the Iran war’s impact on the Strait of Hormuz. Patently ridiculous, of course. For decades, Iran has threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This is always what they do, hold the strait hostage.”
Of course, everything we're seeing tells us that the Trump regime underestimated the Iran war’s impact on the Strait of Hormuz.
And then, Whiskey Pete let his feelings really be known and said, “CNN doesn’t think we thought of that. It’s a fundamentally unserious report. The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better.”
Kegsbreath was referring to Paramount Skydance’s bid to take over Warner Bros. discovery, which is the parent company of CNN. But then again, what does Pistol Pete know about real news? His last job was as a distiller of fake news on Fox News.
On Saturday, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr threatened broadcasters over coverage of Trump's war with Iran, and posted on social media, “Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions – also known as the fake news – have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up. The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not.”
Except Brendan is not being clear on which law he's following. As the chairman of the FCC, he's supposed to work in the public’s interest, not Donald Trump's.
Trump, Hegseth, Carr, and other goons in the administration have been attacking media outlets over the coverage of their failing war with Iran. CNN, The Wall Street Journal, and ABC News were all criticized by the Trumpers for intentionally focusing on aspects of the war that are not going well for the administration. For extra fun, watch Jeannine Pirro lose it when a reporter asks her about all of the failed indictments by her U.S. attorney's s office.
The FCC’s “public interest” statute, a provision Carr frequently cites as he warns media outlets about coverage that is critical of Trump, and which he used when attacking Jimmy Kimmel for comments he made about Charlie Kirk, does not apply to cable news channels, streaming services or social media platforms where millions of Americans have been getting information about Trump's chosen war.
Carr also posted, “The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves. When a political candidate is able to win a landslide election victory after in the face of hoaxes and distortions, there is something very wrong. It means the public has lost faith and confidence in the media. And we can’t allow that to happen. Time for change!”
And right there, Carr was spreading misinformation and fake news because Donald Trump did not win in a landslide. Where on earth is less than 2% of the popular vote a landslide? Only in MAGAland.
Carr is abusing his position by spreading lies, kissing Donald Trump's ass, and threatening networks for not spreading pro-MAGAt propaganda.
These goons are not seeking fair coverage. They want propaganda. In the past, Trump has asked, “Where is my Roy Cohn?” and now it seems that he's asking, Where is my Baghdad Bob?”
Do you remember Baghdad Bob, the inadvertently funny spokesperson for Saddam Hussein's government during American forces were invading Iraq in 2003? While Americans were watching US forces crush the Iraqi army and bust through the city of Baghdad, Bob, whose name was Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, would tell the press how Iraq was actually winning the war and destroying US forces.
Before Baghdad fell, he said, “Our initial assessment is that they will all die," referring to US forces.
He described American and British leaders as "an international gang of criminal bastards,” “blood-sucking bastards,” “ignorant imperialists,” and “losers and fools." He also called them "flocks of sheep doomed to die in Iraq" and compared them to "a snake slithering through the desert that will be chopped into pieces.”
As Iraqi soldiers were running for their lives when US and British troops were chasing them through Baghdad, Bob said, “Baghdad is safe. The battle is still going on. Their infidels are committing suicide by the hundreds on the gates of Baghdad. Don't believe those liars.”
As US and British forces were closing in on Bob's location just hundreds of yards away, he told the gathered press, “There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!” He said, “The Americans will find their tombs in Baghdad!” Instead of tombs, they found Baghdad Bob.
On his last appearance, he said, “The Americans are going to surrender or be burned in their tanks. They will surrender; it is they who will surrender!” Bob surrendered.
US forces captured Bob, and they let them go. No crimes were filed against him, and he was not considered a threat. The last we have heard of Baghdad Bob, he was living in the United Emirates Republic, which today is being bombed by Iran.
If Bob is still alive, and I hope he is, he would be the perfect spokegoon for the Trump administration. I can't think of any member of the Trump regime who can dish bullshit better than Baghdad Bob… Other than Donald Trump, that is.
Creative note: I made three posts today, but I may not do one tomorrow. My heating/air conditioning unit is being installed tomorrow, and I don't know how much of my day that is going to eat. I've scheduled it to start at 9 AM, so who knows. But I have to move a lot of stuff out of the way, like my drawing table, for this to be done. So I'm not sure if I'll be drawing tomorrow or not.
