American Thanksgiving
Speak American this Thanksgiving no matter what it sounds like

In October, Clay Jones suffered a stroke. Through the generous support of the cartoonist community across the country and local citizens, and with the expertise of the physicians at Mary Washington Hospital and the healthcare workers supporting his recovery, Clay is slowly making his way back. While he’s not ready to pick up the demands of weekly deadlines just yet, Clay is again beginning to draw. On Wednesday, the Advance had lunch with Clay and noticed a Thanksgiving cartoon on his tablet. We are honored that he has decided to allow us to run it today. To support Clay as he continues to recover, visit and support his Substack.
I didn't originally plan to draw this cartoon for the Fredericksburg Advance, but my editor, Martin, dropped by yesterday, and after he saw it, he asked me to give it to the Advance for them to publish today. It's not a local issue, which is normally what the advance wants from me, but I think he was just happy that I’m kind of sort of back.
Martin had dropped by wanting to take me out to lunch, which was planned a few days ago. Instead of going out, we decided to just have something here in my apartment. So Martin went to a local downtown restaurant, Sammy T’s, a Fredericksburg staple, and picked something for us there. I had a chicken salad sandwich, which I've had before at Sammy T’s, and it's delicious. Martin had a cheeseburger, which I oggled as if Kristen Bell was in my studio apartment wearing a bikini. I like Kristen Bell and cheeseburgers.
I had a great time with Martin for about an hour. We talked about a few juicy local issues, which seem to be cropping up right at a time when I can't cartoon about them.
Martin had arrived just a few minutes after my physical therapist, Nate, had left, who had arrived just as my proofreader, Laura, was leaving after dropping off some prescription meds for me at our local pharmacy. There was more foot traffic than usual going through Claytoonz studio this morning. Between the three visits, I was drawing his cartoon.
That's one of the things about this small city. Laura doesn't even live half a mile from me, and we have the same pharmacy.
I had the idea for this cartoon a few days ago, and I had planned to do it today, but last night I thought I might just blow it off. Drawing three cartoons in a row is a lot of exertion for me right now. However, yesterday morning, I decided to just dive into it. I was envisioning how I was gonna do the layout and letter it throughout the past few days, and it seemed like a bit of a challenge. I would have thrown in some women, but drawing guys is just so much easier. Men are easier than women, which is true in all aspects of life.
At the end of it all, my shoulder didn't hurt that badly.
The American language in 1621 was not English. Since our strength in this country is our diversity, English shouldn't be our national language now. We shouldn't have any language as our national language, and we should celebrate every culture in this nation. People who want to make English the national language are doing so just to bully other Americans, whether those Americans are in the United States are in other parts of America. These are the same mofos who want to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Why don't they just cut out the middleman and make White the official race of America?
Today’s blood pressure was 131/81, and my pulse was at 65 bpm.
This morning's breakfast.
Sugar-free syrup is kind of watery.

Support your local cartoonist: If you want to support the cartoonist, please donate through PayPal to clayjonz@gmail.com, Venmo to clay-jones-87, or snail mail it to Clay Jones, P.O. Box 3721, Fredericksburg, VA 22402.
I also take Zelle.
All support is appreciated.
Signed prints and books: I cannot take orders for signed prints or for my books at this time. So please do not send me money or place orders for them until further notice. Because of the stroke, it is an ordeal for me to get to the post office, so we’re gonna hold up until I’m fully capable of doing so. Thank you for your understanding.
Merch: Did you know there’s a Claytoonz store? My cartoons are printed on mugs, clothing, caps, and even a Peezy T-shirt. If you ever want a specific cartoon on some merch, let me know, and I’ll add it.
